Welcome to our 6th annual Mother's Day/Queen for a Day contest. If you want to see previous contestants, you can check them out here.

This year's contestants are listed below, and each of them will share their story with you. Under each animal's photo is a button which will allow you to "vote" for that animal with a donation made in their name (which will be used to care for all our animals), by either credit card (no Paypal account required) or by Paypal account (you can also mail in a donation here). Shortly after mother's day, we will add up all the donations raised by each animal and crown our "Queen for a Day" (and share it on our website).

This year, you can even vote for ALL 4 contestants at once by clicking here.

In addition, if you make a "vote / donation" online, you will have access to a Mother's Day PDF card we have made (just print it and fold it), which you can use to honor your mom as well. If your donation is at least $15, we can even post an "In Honor of" or "Memorial" to your mom as well on our website.

Now, let's meet this year's contestants.........

MANDY

Hey! I'm Mandy! It was not long ago that I was living with a family, but one day they just left me behind.

They opened a toilet seat for me to get water but that was it. It was bad enough they did that to me, but I had 5 young kittens to tend to with nothing to eat. They think it was about 2 weeks before a realtor in Huntley found me and knew of a foster home in Animal Outreach Humane Society that could help me and my kittens.

I was skin and bones when I was found, so once I got to my foster home I happily ate my fill and continued caring for my kittens. Soon my kittens were spayed and neutered and off to new forever homes of their own. I'm a people purrson, and I am now spayed, so no more kittens for me! Someone told me that Animal Outreach adopted out over 520 cats and kittens in 2010; can you imagine where all those kittens came from.....I can!

So vote for me, Mandy! .

FANTASIA

I am the lovely Fantasia! Once upon a time I was a tiny kitten that a family found and bottle-fed. They raised me to be a loving and sweet kitty and I lived with them happily with their kids and other animals.

What they did not know is that female kittens can go into heat as early as 5 to 6 months old. They were putting off spaying me because it cost a lot of money, and before they could do anything about it, I was pregnant (and I was still a kitten myself)!

I gave birth to 6 kittens and despite my young age I was a great mom. My family knew they could not afford my kittens and me and did not want to give us to just anybody so they found this great organization called Animal Outreach. I would go live in a foster home with my kittens and we would all be spayed and neutered before being placed up for adoption (for a really reasonable price I might add). They also gave us microchips, dewormings, shots and a blood test to make sure we were healthy.

My kittens all have terrific homes and I will be forever grateful to Animal Outreach for making sure none of us will have any more accidental litters.

A vote for Fantasia is a vote for all kitties who are lucky enough to find their happily ever after!

FREEDOM

I was named Freedom because I was found on the Fourth of July, 2010. How I was found is a bit sad, I was thrown out of a car and a foster home from Animal Outreach saw it and scooped me up and took me to a vet.

They saw me walk funny, and they thought something was broken. Well I do walk funny, but the vet said that there was nothing that could be done about it. It is due to an old injury so I walk crouched down and can't extend one of my front legs, but I get around okay and don't let my limitations stop me.

The vet also said I was pregnant! A shock to me but it was not long before I had my four kittens. I was a good mom but I was always sick and was eventually hospitalized for almost two weeks. A test was done that showed I had a form of irritable bowel disease that could be controlled with special food. Once I was put on good food I got better and showed what a sweet, playful and special kitty I am. I am so happy that Animal Outreach stuck with me and found out what was wrong with me and helped me feel better. Eventually I was adopted along with a kitten I wasn't even related to, but we love each other and I am doing great!

A vote for Freedom is a vote to help Animal Outreach care for the special kitties that need extra attention from a veterinarian. Care that an adoption fee could not even begin to cover.

TASHA

Hi There! I am Tasha and I am what you call a feral mom cat. I was living outside with my kittens last fall and had found a nice area with a woodpile I could hide my babies in. Well some mean man was making these threats that he would do something not nice to me and my babies if we weren't gone soon and I'm told there were coyotes around too. All of a sudden one day when I thought all was lost these ladies from a place called Animal Outreach Humane Society showed up. They spent hours taking apart the wood pile to get my kittens out. I however was not as easy to catch and the next day these ladies brought a trap to capture me so they could reunite me with my kittens.

Sure I was nervous, I went into this big cage thing with my kittens but it turned out to be a pretty sweet deal. I had all the food I wanted and a safe place to continue raising my kittens. This lady called a foster mom really tried her best to see if I could like people. I let her pet me some and was never mean to her but I had a natural distrust of people.Well soon my three boy kittens were all neutered and off to their new homes, they grew to like people a lot. Two of my boys Jingle and Jangle were even adopted together.

I was spayed and ear-tipped, I hear that is a way that people will know that I am a special deluxe cat called a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) cat. It is one of the great programs that Animal Outreach has to help keep the cat population down. I spent the winter in my foster home, since I was found in the fall and it was too cold to go back outside. I have patiently waited for the weather to be nice so I can go to a nice barn. I couldn't go back to the place I came from because of the mean man but at a barn I will be looked after by the owners and given shelter and food.

A vote for me is a vote for all the feral mom cats that need to be spayed and find safe places to live.
